Unpacking how experience, media, and society write the human mind.
“The mind is as a blank sheet of paper, void of all characters, without any ideas. How comes it to be furnished? To this I answer, in one word, from experience.” — John Locke
Welcome to Tabula Rasa.
Tabula Rasa is an old Latin phrase that translates to “blank slate.” In psychology, it’s the idea that none of us are born with our thoughts, habits, or beliefs already wired in. Instead, we all start out completely fresh. Everything we become, how we view the world, and how we treat each other is written onto our blank slates by the lives we live, the environments we grow up in, and the people around us.
This blog is a space dedicated to exploring that process in our everyday lives.
We live in a world where our screens are constantly telling us who to be and what to think. Together, we’re going to take a closer look at modern life—from the headlines on major news sites to the chaotic comment sections on our social feeds. We will dive into how these digital spaces shape our opinions, build our identities, and either create or break down the social stigmas that hold people back. Whether you’re curious about the hidden psychology behind everyday human behaviour, interested in how the internet talks about mental health, or just looking to understand why we do the things we do—you’re starting with a clean slate here.
